October 25: God’s Force Field

Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. ~Proverbs 26:2

The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them. But the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming. The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright. But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken. Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked, for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous. ~Psalm 37:11-17

Isn’t that awesome to know? Just think, evil and the wicked cannot hurt you without going through’s God’s hands first! I can just imagine that curse, intended to harm, fluttering around, but cannot land because the Lord has placed an invisible force shield around you. God will only allow something to touch you that will help you grow deeper in Him.

Unfortunately, some things that God allows through are pretty hard to bear. And, unfortunately, often He does not get our permission first, or give us a warning ahead of time. Yet, if it is true that: “all things work together for the good of those who trust Him,” (Rom. 8:28), His intention is to make what hurts in us turn into His glory when we work with Him and don’t fight against Him.

We need to keep in mind that God is good, and that evil will not win. It is just a tool. It hurts, and it’s okay to admit that. If a challenge brings tears, remember, He collects them. (Psalm 56:8 King James) Not because He enjoys harming us, He is making us beautiful, more like Him and the pain may be what is needed to accomplish it. Yet, our tears are precious to Him.

An evil curse, on the other hand, has no power over us. It cannot even land on us. He will keep us safe from anything that is meaninglessly intended only to destroy for the sake of destruction itself. Suffering, in God’s hands, has a purpose. Other suffering will have no effect at all. “Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked, for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.” Remember whose you are. Remember that evil will not win in the end. Just do your all with a confident smile because that pleases your Lord.

Prayer: Father, thank you again for the promise that nothing can hurt me except what you deem necessary to burn up the chaff and remove the dross in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Mark 7:15 Approximately six hundred years before Jesus, the people of Judah had sinned so badly by ignoring the word of the Lord that God allowed them to be punished by being destroyed by the Babylonians. Jerusalem was completely ruined. Many of the citizens were killed and only a relatively few, referred to as "the remnant," were carried off to live in Babylon for 70 years before being allowed to return and begin again. This event proved to be a real wake up call for the people. The priests and Levites developed an extensive list of rules and regulations by which the people were to live that would outline very clearly how not to break the Ten Commandments again, or any of the whole Law, or "Torah," from Moses in the first five books of the

Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Listen Link:  http://www.firstcovenantcadillac.org/#!this-weeks-sermon/c20mw There’s a war on! And it’s not overseas. I am not talking about the war on terrorism. I am talking about the war in which your heart is the battle ground. It is a war between spiritual forces of good and evil. The victory is ours in Christ. The battle belongs to the Lord. But we are called to play our part. That is why Paul instructs believers like you and me to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  The life of discipleship gives us no time to relax and live our lives ignoring the spiritual battle. We are ordered to fight. It’s not a pleasant metaphor these days. But Paul had no qualms about telling Christians to be good soldiers, prepared for battle. Even when we do take a Sabbath and rest in the Lord, it is only so that we made ready for the next battle. But this kind of battle won’t wear us out if we are strong in the lord. In fact, we will rejoice! This is not a gr
