November 24 Your House, A House of Wisdom

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. ~Proverbs 24:3-4

He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the Kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” ~Matthew 13:52

It’s interesting to see what people collect, if they collect at all that is. Some people like to collect rare and beautiful objects. Others like to collect more common ones such as soda cans or T-shirts. I wonder what a wise person should collect that would set their house apart? Perhaps the house that Solomon and Jesus are referring to is mostly in the unseen world.

Jesus tells us to store treasure in heaven where rust and moth cannot corrupt. That usually refers to people and kindnesses. How would that reflect on our homes in the seen world? Perhaps, as we continue to focus on growing and accumulating knowledge of God, and strive to please Him, wanting what He wants for us instead of striving for what we think will make us happy, our homes themselves will reflect our heart so that we may become known as a house of wisdom.

I’ve always liked the stories that feature a spiritual hermit as a main character. I always thought it would be awesome to be considered so wise that people would be willing to travel, “many moons,” suffer “Many hardships,” and accomplish “many feats,” just to get a piece of my wisdom. Grin! Well, maybe not so much. But the hermit character in such stories always appears so peaceful and unruffled by the agitations of the world.

I believe that if we can stay focused on God’s wisdom and knowledge, many of the treasures that we will gain, old and new, will not only help us to remain centered on Christ, and His peace, but also allow us to minister to other fretful souls to bring them to a knowledge of that peace as well.

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” We should pray that those who need the treasures that we have stored, will be attracted by what we have to share because of the life we display, because we are putting into practice the wisdom and knowledge we have. May our treasure not be shallow, such as the trivia of life, but treasures worth bringing with us into eternity.

Prayer: Father, as I pursue You I find riches beyond belief! I find forgiveness and peace. I find belonging and purpose. I find Truth and freedom. I find a desire and motivation to serve you well and play my role in fulfilling Your Great Commission. I find joy in sharing the Good News. I find love, mercy and compassion for my neighbor. Lord, help me reflect Your glory and live that way. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Mark 7:15 Approximately six hundred years before Jesus, the people of Judah had sinned so badly by ignoring the word of the Lord that God allowed them to be punished by being destroyed by the Babylonians. Jerusalem was completely ruined. Many of the citizens were killed and only a relatively few, referred to as "the remnant," were carried off to live in Babylon for 70 years before being allowed to return and begin again. This event proved to be a real wake up call for the people. The priests and Levites developed an extensive list of rules and regulations by which the people were to live that would outline very clearly how not to break the Ten Commandments again, or any of the whole Law, or "Torah," from Moses in the first five books of the

Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Listen Link:  http://www.firstcovenantcadillac.org/#!this-weeks-sermon/c20mw There’s a war on! And it’s not overseas. I am not talking about the war on terrorism. I am talking about the war in which your heart is the battle ground. It is a war between spiritual forces of good and evil. The victory is ours in Christ. The battle belongs to the Lord. But we are called to play our part. That is why Paul instructs believers like you and me to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  The life of discipleship gives us no time to relax and live our lives ignoring the spiritual battle. We are ordered to fight. It’s not a pleasant metaphor these days. But Paul had no qualms about telling Christians to be good soldiers, prepared for battle. Even when we do take a Sabbath and rest in the Lord, it is only so that we made ready for the next battle. But this kind of battle won’t wear us out if we are strong in the lord. In fact, we will rejoice! This is not a gr
