May 7: National Day of Prayer

Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted. But by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed. ~Proverbs 11:11

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth—who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army. No warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance. Despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord. He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You. ~Psalm 33:12-22

On the first Thursday of May, our nation is called to devote itself to prayer. Our nation has a very godly heritage that can never be taken for granted. One need look no further than Germany to see how quickly remembrance of God can be lost. The nation that brought us Luther along with other reformers, all the way down to Bonhoeffer in the 1930’s is now one of the most secular societies known. Atheism is very strong in Germany. Germany is a nation that has forgotten its godly heritage.

We are all vulnerable when we are not vigilant. During our time together, let’s remember our leaders. We are encouraged to pray for our leaders, and not just the ones we like or agree with. In fact, it may be that the only influence we may have over any of them is in prayer. Consider the list below as we lift them up in prayer. May our nation turn back to God in a mighty way and never forget our godly heritage.

HOW TO PRAY FOR AMERICA

GOVERNMENT: Pray for your leaders, as well as the judges in our courts. Ask God to grant them wisdom to act with integrity. (I Kings 3:28; I Timothy 2:1-2; Exodus 18:21; Proverbs 11:3; Romans 13:1-2)

Federal Government: Consider praying for our President, Vice President, Cabinet Members, Congressional Leaders, Supreme Court Justices

State Government: Consider praying for your Governor, Executive Leaders, Legislative Leaders, Judicial Leaders

Local Government: Consider praying for your Mayor, City Counsel, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Judges, County Officials.

Mark 7:15 Approximately six hundred years before Jesus, the people of Judah had sinned so badly by ignoring the word of the Lord that God allowed them to be punished by being destroyed by the Babylonians. Jerusalem was completely ruined. Many of the citizens were killed and only a relatively few, referred to as "the remnant," were carried off to live in Babylon for 70 years before being allowed to return and begin again. This event proved to be a real wake up call for the people. The priests and Levites developed an extensive list of rules and regulations by which the people were to live that would outline very clearly how not to break the Ten Commandments again, or any of the whole Law, or "Torah," from Moses in the first five books of the

Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Listen Link:  http://www.firstcovenantcadillac.org/#!this-weeks-sermon/c20mw There’s a war on! And it’s not overseas. I am not talking about the war on terrorism. I am talking about the war in which your heart is the battle ground. It is a war between spiritual forces of good and evil. The victory is ours in Christ. The battle belongs to the Lord. But we are called to play our part. That is why Paul instructs believers like you and me to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  The life of discipleship gives us no time to relax and live our lives ignoring the spiritual battle. We are ordered to fight. It’s not a pleasant metaphor these days. But Paul had no qualms about telling Christians to be good soldiers, prepared for battle. Even when we do take a Sabbath and rest in the Lord, it is only so that we made ready for the next battle. But this kind of battle won’t wear us out if we are strong in the lord. In fact, we will rejoice! This is not a gr
