February 16 Christ is our wisdom.

Wisdom says, “I was the craftsman at the Lord’s side, from the beginning. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in His presence, rejoicing in His whole world and delighting in mankind. Now then, my child, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord. But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death. ~Proverbs 8:30-36

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. ~John 1:1-4 & 14

On February 13, we already said Jesus is wisdom, in connection with the Proverbs passage in which wisdom cries out in the streets like a town crier. But today, with these two passages of scripture side by side, can you see even more clearly how inseparable wisdom and Jesus are? We may know people who have what we would call earthly wisdom. They are usually older individuals who have learned a lot from life’s experiences, and there is some benefit in listening to them. But you cannot have godly wisdom and not have Jesus! They are inseparable. You can know Jesus and refuse His wisdom by refusing to grow in Him, but you cannot have His wisdom without Him. You just can’t. It’s impossible!

You might think you have Jesus because you say you believe in him or made a decision for Christ. You know that name and you make it a part of your life. But if you have no interest in being in His Word, or with His people and your only prayers are laundry lists of what you want and need without much thought for Him or others, you’re not wise. And you don’t really have Jesus either. You just think you do. But you don’t if you have not surrendered to Him, really. A lot of church people are religious like Pharisees and not like true disciples of Jesus.

Please don’t make that mistake. Jesus guards His sister, wisdom well. He is very protective of her. He will not let you have her without Him. He is her door. “Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For, whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord.” “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him or her, and they with Me.” (Rev. 3:20) If you want true wisdom, accept and submit to Jesus, Your Lord.

From Genesis to Revelation, Jesus and wisdom have worked together as a team. They were present before creation. They helped in creation. Wisdom walked with Jesus on this earth. Wisdom will be with Jesus when we see Him at the right hand of God, His Father, in eternity. King Jesus will reign with wisdom. They began inseparable and will remain so forever.

Prayer: Oh Father, please, give me wisdom to fully appreciate how much You love us and that Jesus shows us that on the cross. May I bow before You today and proclaim Jesus as my Lord and King, whom I serve with a heart full of gratitude for bringing me to life out of the deadness of sin. Come in Lord Jesus, with Your wisdom, to inspire how I live for you, In Jesus' name. amen.

211. The Sons of Thunder's Request

Matthew 20:20-28 , Mark 10:35-45 , Key verse: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all." Mark 10:43B-44 In our readings for yesterday, in which Jesus outlined what was about to happen to Him, for His disciples, the passage in Luke ends: "The disciples did not understand any of this. It's meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what He was talking about." ( Luke 18:34 ) Now, we see just how truly clueless they were. Jesus had laid out a plan before them of pain and suffering and death and now James and John are focused on a promotion. The disconnect is so obvious. It's really not important to know whether James and john came up with this request on their own or if their mother put them up to it. The request was made and James and John thought that they could handle the responsibility that would come with it. What is that saying, "Fools rush in where angels fe...

These Boots are Made for Walking

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-15 These Boots are Made for Walking. Of course, I picked that title because it has a reference to popular culture, and it connects with our text today about “feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.” I was tempted to play the video of that song, but it’s really not amenable to worship. If you remember that old song, it was quite confrontational. The singer had a righteous complaint against a boyfriend or spouse who was cheating on her. She’s not going to put up with that, and the song goes on to say, “One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you!” And that “take a stand” bravado made her a hero! It was a #1 hit in 1966. I mention it because it has one interesting parallel and one major contrast with the message of grace and forgiveness. That parallel is this. God has a righteous complaint against the entire human race for cheating Him out of the loving relationship He desires with us. As the God who created us, he h...

186. Ten Healed, Or One?

Luke 17:11-19 Key Verse: Then He said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well." Luke 17:19 At last, Jesus has left the crowd behind and again is continuing His journey toward Jerusalem. His path takes Him and His disciples along the border of Judea and Samaria, between the pure Jews, and the hated half breeds of the day. On His way, Jesus encounters an interesting group of people. We only learn the nationality of one of them and, though we don't know the nationality of the others, because Jesus sends them to the priests in Jerusalem we can probably assume that at least some of them are Jews. Isn't it interesting that through leprosy, a disease that causes much suffering, the dividing wall of hatred has come down for the sake of companionship? We encountered one leper earlier on our Journey. Lepers were the dreaded untouchables of the day. Their disease cut them off from all they loved. It was a very lonely life. No wonder these people had ...
