355. I Am Your Everything

Key Verse:  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6

“The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands.  He has watched over your journey through this vast desert.  These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” (Deuteronomy 2:7) In the Exodus, God provided a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day to guide them. He gave them laws to live by and food to eat.  He provided wisdom, encouragement, guidance and strength.  Now, through His Holy Spirit, He guides those who are His sheep into His will by showing them the way, in truth, to eternal life.

All that God was for His chosen then, He is still for us today.  We have trouble discerning His presence at times, but He is just as real for us now as He was for Israel then.

In this statement, “I am the way, and the truth and the life,” Jesus is summing up all that He is in one statement.  When he says, “I am the way,” He is reminding His disciples that He is the only gate or door to the Father.  He is shepherd and guide and leader, and key, if we will trust in and follow Him.  “I am the truth,” reminds His disciples of His statement of being the light that reveals the truth to those who are seeking.  It also serves to remind them that He gave them rules to live by and thrive by if they would trust Him and follow them.  When He says, “I am The life,” He is reminding them that He is living water, living bread, not to mention the power over life itself as they, and we, saw with Lazarus.

In a way, Jesus is saying nothing new here.  He is reminding His disciples, however, of what He has said before.  Therefore, because this statement is a combination of other statements, it is as though He were coloring in orange on His portrait of, “I Am.”  Orange is not a primary color of its own. It is a combination of red and yellow.  It is a combination of who He is and what He does.  It is found in the Son rise and Son set of our lives. It adds dimensions and beauty that we cannot ignore.  It signifies who He is and what He does for us when we trust in Him.

Isaiah 29:9-16 , Matthew 15:1-20 , Mark 7:1-23 , Key Verse: "Nothing outside a man can make him "unclean," by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him "unclean." Mark 7:15 Approximately six hundred years before Jesus, the people of Judah had sinned so badly by ignoring the word of the Lord that God allowed them to be punished by being destroyed by the Babylonians. Jerusalem was completely ruined. Many of the citizens were killed and only a relatively few, referred to as "the remnant," were carried off to live in Babylon for 70 years before being allowed to return and begin again. This event proved to be a real wake up call for the people. The priests and Levites developed an extensive list of rules and regulations by which the people were to live that would outline very clearly how not to break the Ten Commandments again, or any of the whole Law, or "Torah," from Moses in the first five books of the

Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Listen Link:  http://www.firstcovenantcadillac.org/#!this-weeks-sermon/c20mw There’s a war on! And it’s not overseas. I am not talking about the war on terrorism. I am talking about the war in which your heart is the battle ground. It is a war between spiritual forces of good and evil. The victory is ours in Christ. The battle belongs to the Lord. But we are called to play our part. That is why Paul instructs believers like you and me to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  The life of discipleship gives us no time to relax and live our lives ignoring the spiritual battle. We are ordered to fight. It’s not a pleasant metaphor these days. But Paul had no qualms about telling Christians to be good soldiers, prepared for battle. Even when we do take a Sabbath and rest in the Lord, it is only so that we made ready for the next battle. But this kind of battle won’t wear us out if we are strong in the lord. In fact, we will rejoice! This is not a gr
