348. I AM

Key Verse:  "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."
Revelation 1:8

Note that except for the passage in Exodus, all of the passages mentioned above were penned by the Apostle John, who always referred to himself as, "the one Jesus loved."  All of us should say the same.  It was of the utmost importance to John to establish the divinity of Jesus.  Jesus was not merely a man, empowered by the Holy Spirit with special powers and abilities.  He was not merely God appearing in human form.  Jesus was fully God and fully man.  "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us."  (John 1:2)

It may seem that we are staying too long on this point, but that is because this is the main point of the entire gospel.  Jesus was and is and who is to come.  It wasn't a super human who died for us, it was our creator Himself who hung on the cross for our, (the created), sins.  The crucifixion wasn't just a point, long ago in history, it was done by God, who stepped out of His eternal existence into our finite one, to bring us across the line, back into eternity.  You will forever know Him as your crucified Lord, and eternal savior and King.

  • "I Am," the One who saves from the slavery of sin and the consequences of death.
  • "I Am," the beginning and the end.
  • "I Am," creator!
  • "I Am," all that I claim to be!
  • "I Am," all knowing!
  • "I Am," all powerful!
  • "I Am" everywhere!
  • "I Am," your Lord and King.
  • "I Am," the image of the invisible God, made visible for you.

"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I Am!"  (John 8:58)  Let's take some time to remember how Jesus revealed Himself to the Israelites in the wilderness, how those revelations relate to the claims that He made about Himself in the New Testament, and gain understanding of what that means about how we can rely on Him today. Let's also think about how Jesus still reveals himself to us today. He is alive! And he loves each and everyone of us personally. Let's color in the portrait to see clearly who Christ is for us today. Let's make the first bright color red:  red for His blood and red for His Holy fire.

258. "Remember, Always Remember!"

Exodus 12:1-30 Key Verse: "This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord a lasting ordinance." Exodus 12:14 "Celebrate the feast of unleavened bread, because it was on this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to come." (Exodus 12:17) "And when your children ask you, "What does this ceremony mean to you?" then tell them, "It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when He struck down the Egyptians." (Exodus 12:27) The original act was an act of worship as the first true act of freedom for the people of Israel. They had been brought to Egypt by Joseph during a time of famine so that through Joseph God could preserve their lives. ( Genesis 37 , & 39-50 ) After Joseph died, however, instead of heading back to C...

Job 19:23-27 , Psalm 16 , 1 Corinthians 15:50-58 Key verses: "I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand upon the earth." Job 19:25 "Where O death, is your victory?  Where O death is your sting?  Thanks be to God!  He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:55-&-57 Way back at the beginning of our journey we described Job as an example of a man without the hope of Christ. O how he longed for a mediator between he and God, to plead his case and move the heart of God with compassion in his situation.  He longed to be relieved from his suffering.  We described Job as a man, like so many today, who have no hope of a savior or of a personal relationship with God.  Yet, remarkably, the Holy Spirit reached out to the heart of Job to help him know, without seeing, that there is a redeemer, the one he yearned for and that someday, even after he is dead and decayed, he would meet that One face to fa...
